Stuttering is a speech disorder characterized by disruptions in the fluency of speech, which can significantly affect individuals’ social lives, emotional well-being, and communication skills.
As the Department of Speech and Language Therapy at Tarsus University Faculty of Health Sciences, we organized an awareness exhibition on the occasion of International Stuttering Awareness Day, observed on October 22nd each year.
Our event took place on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, starting at 08:30 on our university’s main campus and continued throughout the day. Students and academic staff from various faculties of our university showed great interest in the exhibition.
The exhibition stand was prepared with the active participation of our department’s faculty members and students. It featured informative posters, visual materials related to stuttering (such as the "iceberg analogy"), and awareness-raising content. Visitors were informed about the social, emotional, and communicative impacts of stuttering on individuals' lives.
Throughout the event, our students provided information to attendees on the causes, symptoms, and therapy processes of stuttering, as well as the importance of adopting supportive and inclusive attitudes in society.
Through this event, we aimed to both increase public awareness of stuttering and help our students develop clinical insight and a sense of social responsibility.
We would like to thank all our students and department members who contributed to the success of the event.
